Brass Plating
Benefits & Uses
Brass plating is typically used for a variety of hardware and decorative applications—lighting components, cabinet hardware, etc. Brass plating is also sometimes applied for identification purposes. For most bright decorative applications, a thin layer of brass is applied over a bright nickel plated part. Brass plating (and parts) can also be “antiqued” or blackened to produce an old or antique looking finish. Since brightness is not a requirement of antique brass finishes, brass plating is typically applied directly to the part for this process—the nickel layer is not necessary. For either of these finishes (bright brass or antique brass), a lacquer post dip is typically applied to the final finish to prevent tarnishing.
