Cadmium Plating

Benefits & Uses

Cadmium plating is considered to be one of the best plating finishes for corrosion resistance, able to provide excellent protection even in the harshest environments. Other benefits of cadmium include excellent lubricity and low electrical resistance.

One of the main uses of cadmium plating is to improve the corrosion resistance of steel parts. When applied, cadmium works as a sacrificial coating to greatly prolong the life of the basis metal. The corrosion protection of cadmium plating can also be enhanced through a variety of chromate and seal post dip applications.

Our Capabilities

Due to environmental concerns, cadmium plating is becoming less and less of a viable finishing option—especially for new parts and/or products.

Varland Metal Service still maintains barrel cadmium plating capabilities. We have the ability to cadmium plate over ferrous alloys including low and high carbon steels (including heat treated/case hardened steels), stainless steel, etc. We also have years of experience cadmium plating on copper alloys including brass, copper, and phosphorous bronze.

We have been solving cadmium plating problems on hard-to-plate parts for years. Our Engineering and Production Staff has extensive cadmium plating knowledge and experience

Contact Varland today to find out more about our cadmium plating capabilities and how we can help you with your cadmium plating needs.
